One of the interesting things I found useful in chapter 2 of
the Multimedia Journalist was the idea of collaboration. Typically in my
background of broadcast news, the usual collaboration is between a photographer
and the reporter and each role is very concrete. The reporter’s job is to write
the news story and the photographer’s job is to document it with film and
video. In multimedia, the rules have changed. The collaboration is still in
effect, but now reporters can be the photographers and vice versa. The idea of
storytelling in multimedia is very different from broadcast stories. Multimedia
projects have a team of journalists that contribute information and play
various roles in producing a project. The collaborations and contributions that
go into a multimedia project are endless and journalists are able to share
information and produce captivating stories. The ultimate goal of collaborating
and specializing in media is gaining multiple sources of content in order to
create multimedia projects. I can tell that Multimedia storytelling is going to
be a new way to tell stories outside of the traditional storytelling techniques.
